What this is
Printable reference charts for electrical, machining, fastener and tool work. Free, no sign-up, no paywall, no limits. 3 charts are published and 10 more are drafted and held.
Why it exists
Search for a drill chart or a wire gauge table and the top results are raw PDFs from university course pages, a table on the server of a physics laboratory, and pages last touched in the nineties. The tables are mostly fine. What none of them tell you is which standard the numbers come from or when anyone last checked. That is the whole gap this site is built into.
How the charts are made
Two ways, and the difference is stated on every page. 3 charts are computed from a definition. AWG is a defined geometric series and an inch fraction is its own decimal, so the build recomputes every figure and fails if one drifts. Everything else has to be transcribed from a published standard and then read back against it by a person before it goes up. There is no third category. How we verify has the detail, including what the automated checks cannot catch.
What is deliberately missing
There is no ampacity column on the wire gauge chart, because how much current a conductor may carry is a property of an installation rather than of a wire size. There is no torque chart yet, because a torque figure without its thread condition is not a specification. 10 charts are drafted and held for reasons like these; they are listed on the catalogue with the standard each one is waiting on.
Who runs it
A small independent project, not a manufacturer and not a retailer. Nothing on the site is sponsored, and no chart is shaped by anyone who sells the parts it describes.
Corrections
If a figure here disagrees with the standard it cites, that is the most useful message this project can receive. Write to info@workshopcharts.com with the chart and the clause, and it gets checked before anything else in the queue.
